Got the following instant classic reply from a subscriber the other day:

As you can see…
This chap was just trying to be useful by telling me that the tone of my writing feels like I stumbled on copywriting by chance and am bored.
LOL
Good guy Farhan.
So helpful.
I’m just relieved to hear this wasn’t criticism!
Cause if it had been, it would have to qualify as the most pathetic attempt I’ve ever witnessed 😂
On a more serious note:
This is the type of inane response you can expect from the writing nerds who’d rather criticize someone else for not ‘fOlLoWiNg tHe RuLeS’ vs focusing on what actually works.
And while some may find my casual tone disarming…
Or my staccato pacing a bit unhinged…
To put it bluntly:
Thousands of people read and buy my stuff every day.
So I know it works.
And that’s all I really care about.
Not what some schmuck thinks about my tone.
In fact, this is one of the things I love most about building an email-based business…
I don’t have to rely on random replies to validate my approach.
The numbers do that for me ;)
Now, clearly I couldn’t resist the temptation to put this fool on blast…
Yet there’s also an important lesson I want to share.
Which is:
No matter how experienced you are or how good you are at what you do…
There will always be unqualified spectators willing to throw rocks from the cheap seats.
It comes with the territory of building an audience online.
And ultimately…
If you’re not provoking an emotional response from your subscribers…
You’re not doing it right.
So don’t let it deter you :)
