pointless countdown emails

Fun fact:

I was recently reviewing a promo sequence for a client when something caught my eye.

You see, I was encouraging him to send 3-5 emails on the last day…

Which, as aggressive as it sounds, always leads to more sales.

But at the same time…

That’s a LOT of emails to send in one day.

And, understandably, he struggled to come up with enough different ways to come at the offer.

So when he sent me the last batch emails…

Three of them were pure urgency emails with no other story, lesson, or insight to share.

“Buy now, time’s running out!” type thing.

I challenged him to come up with new stories and lessons that could stand on their own...

And merit a reason to show up in the inbox.

After putting our heads together, we came up with a new plan:

One email deconstructed a false belief…

Another targeted an objection we hadn’t yet handled explicitly…

And another spoke to the identity shift his offer delivered..

In other words:

We made sure each email had its own strategic purpose within the sequence.

Every single one was justified.

So not only was he able to close out the promo with a bang…

But he also saw far fewer unsubscribes than expected.

All because he had something worth saying in (almost) every email.

Do this right and people won’t complain or be offended that you’ve unleashed the email kraken on them.
