Confession:
I used to be a travel maximalist.
I’d want to leave as early as possible, come back as late as possible, and cram every single sight or activity into my time away that I could.
But not anymore.
I’ve come to realize this is driven by a scarcity mindset.
And I end up spending the whole time rushing around and stressing about staying on schedule.
What’s more:
This approach exacts a heavy toll on me in the weeks immediately before and after the trip…
(as I scramble to get ahead before departing or to get caught up after returning)
Such that the restorative benefits of the trip disappear mighty fast.
Not fun.
So now I’ve shifted into what I like to think of as “abundance travel” mode.
For instance:
I took the redeye to Barcelona last night instead of flying out on Friday…
Which gave me plenty of time to get my affairs in order before leaving.
And when I fly back, it’ll be on a Friday…
So I’ve got the entire weekend on the backend to reacclimate…
Instead of flying back as late as possible on Sunday, then having to lurch back into work on Monday morning like a zombie.
To most people, deliberately shortening a trip like this makes no sense.
Yet to me, it’s well worth it.
Because I’ve designed my life and business in such a way that if I fall in love with Spain…
(as many people assure me that I will, lol)
I can easily just come back.
That’s abundance to me.
Being intentional and making tradeoffs in a way that reflects what YOU want.
Not what someone else would do in your place.
Something to keep in mind as you design your own life and business :)
